New Moon
26th January 07.56 GMT

Sun at 6˚ 30' Aquarius
Moon at 6˚ 30' Aquarius

How quickly the seasons change! We are almost half way between the winter solstice and spring equinox. The days are already increasing in length - which is really noticeable of an evening and not so obvious of a morning.
The earth is still bare but the first signs of life are beginning to stir. The delicate white flowers of the snowdrops are just appearing. How beautiful is this planet that we live on! Here in Herefordshire we have experienced quite a few Haw frosts and I have awoken to find everywhere and everything being covered in a thick white frost. How amazing the landscape looked! I don’t remember seeing frosts like these since I was a little girl. We have had such mild winters of late that it’s good to have a cold one to kill off all the bugs that are lurking around.

The night sky.

How clear the night skies have been! What a treat! Over Christmas I watched Venus and Jupiter separating from each other. Venus has been shining so brightly that it has had a blue aura around it.
I love the stars we see at this time of year. Adorning the heavens are Orion the hunter and Sirius the Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky. *Bernadette Brady associates Sirius with finding the sacred in the mundane actions of daily life.

Eclipses.

The Aquarius New moon is very powerful, due to the fact that it’s an annular solar eclipse. Having an ominous or prophetic significance, an annular eclipse means that if we were able to see it from the British Isles, the Moon wouldn’t completely block out the Sun, whose light would consequently create a ring around it, giving the impression of a solar halo.
Ancient history is filled with stories of how eclipses ended battles and wars and how there were supposed to signify the birth of important people.
Often people notice dramatic changes in their lives around the time of solar eclipses, changes which can have an effect for years to come. This eclipse will be visible from South Africa and the Indian Ocean.
On the 9th of February a penumbral eclipse of the full Moon follows this annular eclipse of the Sun. Unfortunately neither is visible from the UK.

The chart of the New Moon.

This chart has a large emphasis in Aquarius the sign of the water bearer. Aquarius is unconventional and likes to deviate from the norm. Being an air sign, it’s very intellectual, visionary and often scientific. Aquarius has very strong humanitarian views of what society could be like, so there could be plenty of new ideas flying around. The challenge is to be able to put them into practical use. The Saturn/Uranus opposition also reflects this theme. Both these two planets rule the sign of Aquarius. Saturn is the traditional ruler and Uranus the modern ruler.
Since the middle of September 2008, all the planets have been contained inside the Saturn/Uranus opposition which has created an energy akin to a lid being put on the rest of the planets. As I have mentioned in previous Moon reports, the Moon has been the only luminary to transit outside of this wall created by Saturn and Uranus.
Two days before this new Moon, on the 24th of January, Venus the planet that rules money is the first of the personal planets to come outside the Saturn/Uranus opposition. On a monetary level will we start to get a glimpse of what is really going on? This week the government has announced it’s going to throw more money at the banks in the hope that this will encourage more lending. I wonder how does this sort out the problem that this country is in? Are we just going to wake up one morning and find that our currency has no value at all?
In the new Moon chart Venus is conjunct Uranus and due to the strong emphasis in Aquarius, we need to be prepared for the unexpected. Royalties around music could alter due to people being able to down load music from the Internet. Our values could change; especially about things we take for granted. Maybe we need to look at the areas where we overindulge.
With falling interest rates, Pluto in Capricorn is telling us that what people relied upon in the past isn’t reliable anymore. I think about the old people who thought their savings were safe only to find themselves now in the situation of having less money than they thought.
The other thing I find quite unbelievable is the government’s go ahead for the 5th runway at Heathrow Airport. With this proposal, what chance does the environment stand?

Imbolc

On the 4th of February the Sun is at 15 degrees of Aquarius marking the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. This is the ancient fire festival of Imbolc, the festival of renewal.
At this time of year, all over the country, our healing wells are being decorated, especially wells dedicated to St Bride or Bridget. I’d like to take some space to honour the healing waters of our springs and wells, which flow into our rivers and eventually find their way to the sea becoming the rain that in turn, feeds our land. Water is so precious; it is the elixir of life, the blood of the earth.

In the chart of the full Moon on the 9th of February, Venus is once again prominently placed. We are being given an amazing chance to transform our relationship to money and our values.

I leave you with a quotation: Alexander Ruperti says in “Cycles of Becoming” that in order to have change, it is necessary to have a crisis. He goes on to say that the word “crisis” comes from the Greek word krino, which means “to decide”. Thus crisis simply means a time for a decision.

Blessing of the new Moon to you all. Linda Day.
